With summer's arrival, it's time to stock the freezer with cool and refreshing white and rosé wines. Considering factors like price, quality, and taste, JC suggests the following eight budget-friendly wine options from four different varieties for our wine lovers. Riesling:


2013 Pewsey Vale The Contours Riesling, Eden Valley 

Eight Awards & Rating Score 97 in HALLIDAY. The 2013 is one of the Top Vintages and now is the best period to drink this wine. Pale gold in hue, it's gained secondary notes like lighter fluid, lemon oil, lime leaf and wild herbal undertones, but there's also a fresh floral note still present. The palate is tightly wound and chalky-textured with crisp acidity and a pleasing bitter herbal finish.

 

2022 Grosset Springvale Riesling, Grosset 

The cool-fermented Grosset Springvale Riesling is renowned for its aromatic complexity, pure fruit flavours and mouth-watering slatey acidity. Gentle lime and lemongrass aromatics, precede a palate that shows evidence of its quality and impeccable balance. It has pristine lemon, lime flavours that are powerful, intense and bright. 


 

Sauvignon Blanc:


2023 Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc, Adelaide Hills

This release shows ripe tropical characters with restrained grassy notes and crisp dry acidity. Delightfully fresh lively and flavoursome. Always a classic and always quick to disappear off the shelves.


2023 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough

An exquisite expression of New Zealand's renowned Marlborough region. Revel in the purity, vibrancy, and elegance that have made Cloudy Bay a trailblazer in the world of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.  Notes of passion fruit and grapefruit dance on the taste buds, culminating in a refreshing, clean finish that lingers, leaving you craving another sip.

 


Chardonnay:


2021 Savaterre Frere Cadet Chardonnay, Beechworth

For Australia, the 2021 vintage is shaping up to be markedly good, particularly for South Australia. The Frère Cadet range of wines are created with the same attention to detail that goes into their premium Savaterre label but are more giving when young.It's the wine you open when friends get together for dinner, or when you spend your days off on the couch indulging in a TV program.


2019 Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay, California

Kendall-Jackson has remained relentlessly committed to producing only the finest quality wines in California’s cool, coastal vineyards. This is a juicy, tropical-fruited Chardonnay with weight and presence.

2023 Turkey Flat Vineyards Rose, Barossa
