2.1996/1997/1998/1999 Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz WGBX
JC finewine's next highlight is the atmospheric and beautiful limited wooden gift boxes of Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz, Australia's most famous single vineyard wine.
The vineyard was established around 1860 at Parrot Hill in Eden Valley and then handed down through the generations to the Henschke family, who produced the first batch of Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz in 1958 after a century of work by four generations. It took nearly 30 years for the wine to really take off and is now one of Australia's most distinguished and sought after wines.
The Hill of Grace vineyard is picked just before the full moon of Easter. Traditional submerged cap fermentation in wax-lined, open top concrete fermenters is followed by maturation in new (58%) and seasoned French (85%) and American oak hogsheads for 18 months.
An intensely perfumed, concentrated and velvet-textured wine, Hill of Grace is the quintessential Eden Valley shiraz. Pristine blackberry pastille and sage aromas, mocha nuances, fine, lacy tannins, voluminous freshness and underlying savoury oak are hallmarks of the style. Age will develop roasted chestnut and espresso nuances and velvety textures.
This wine can be aged for 50 years and is undeniably a treasure for wine collectors.

3.2011/2015/2017 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz 1.5L Magnum WGBX
Robert O’Callaghan’s evocative Rockford Basket Press Shiraz is a tribute to the Barossa’s 19th and early 20th-century heritage.
Made from grapes sourced from 60 to 140-year-old dry-grown vineyards (most from independent growers) across a range of Barossa soils, altitudes and micro-climates, the wine represents a rare and important post-colonial Australian aesthetic.
This soft and medium bodied style, with an earthy quality showing through bottle age, echoes the landscape of the Barossa and references the great mid 20th-century wines of legendary winemaker Colin Preece. Labour-intensive winemaking practices, a culture of craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail culminate in one of Australia’s greatest and most-loved wines
Fruit is hand-picked then vinified using classic Barossa techniques including a 19th-century wooden Bagshaw crusher, open fermentation and basket pressing. Matured primarily in seasoned 300-litre French and American oak hogsheads and 2500-litre vats for two years.
Neatly juxtaposed between powerful and elegant, the Rockford Basket Press Shiraz is beautifully tensioned with exquisite dark berry fruits, inky complexity, underlying roasted chestnut notes and long, muscular but precise tannins.
