Collection: KAESLER
The first members of the Kaesler family were Silesian immigrants who settled in the Barossa Valley in 1845. The vineyards date back to 1893 and some of the old dry-grown shiraz remains today. Kaesler family ownership ended in 1968 and the company was eventually acquired by former flying winemakers Reid and Bindy Bosward, in conjunction with the same investment group who have since purchased Yarra Yering. Together they have set about regenerating the vines and the estate. The old brick horse stable now holds a private tasting room and the original farm cottages offer accommodation. -HALLIDAY TEAM
THE STORY
The buoyant, retro-modern and larger-than-life Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz is based on a small patchwork of “old bastards” – vines planted around 1893 on sandy clay loams. After fermentation, the wine is matured in new (35%) and one-year-old French oak pièces for 12 to 16 months. Classical in style, it is typically red fruited in cooler years with dense velveteen, chocolatey textures, generous flavours and integrated mocha notes.
