Collection: LAKE'S FOLLY
The first of the weekend wineries to produce wines for commercial sale, long revered for its Cabernet Sauvignon and nowadays its Chardonnay. Just as they should, terroir and climate produce a distinct wine style. Lake’s Folly no longer has any connection with the Lake family, having been acquired some years ago by Perth businessman Peter Fogarty. Peter’s family company previously established the Millbrook Winery in the Perth Hills and has since acquired Deep Woods Estate and Evans & Tate in Margaret River, Smithbrook Wines in Pemberton and Dalwhinnie in the Pyrenees, so is no stranger to the joys and agonies of running a small winery. Peter has been an exemplary owner of all the brands, providing support where needed but otherwise not interfering. -JAMES HALLIDAY
Established in 1963 by Doctor Max Lake, Lake's Folly was the first new vineyard in the Hunter Valley last century. In early 2000 Lake's Folly was purchased by Peter and Lee Fogarty and family who, along with Hunter-born and bred winemaker, Rodney Kempe, have continued to maintain the integrity and direction of this significant vineyard.
Our two flagship wines, a Cabernet blend and a Chardonnay, are made in limited quantities and are grown, vintaged, and made on the estate. The wine styles are restrained and elegant, showing finesse and complexity. They have clarity of structure and great length of flavour.
