Collection: PIERRO

Dr Michael Peterkin is another of the legion of Margaret River medical practitioner-vignerons; for good measure, he married into the Cullen family. Pierro is renowned for its stylish white wines, which often exhibit tremendous complexity; the Chardonnay can be monumental in its weight and texture. That said, its red wines from good vintages can be every bit as good. Exports to the UK, Denmark, Belgium, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. -JAMES HALLIDAY

THE STORY

The superbly concentrated, complex and mineral Pierro Chardonnay epitomises the Margaret River genre with its extraordinary fragrance, suppleness, al dente texture and remarkable lasting aftertaste. Vinified in Burgundian fashion, barrel fermented in new (50%) and one-year-old French oak, and matured for around 12 months in the same barriques. It offers lemon curd, grapefruit, white peach and cashew nut aromas and flavours, lovely mid-palate richness and underlying new oak.
