Overview
Clos Otto is a single-vineyard Shiraz created in honour of Otto Kasper, whose distinctive planting established one of Hentley Farmās most important vineyard parcels. First released in 2005, Clos Otto has become a flagship expression of Barossa Valley Shiraz, recognised with the Barossa Trust Mark in 2016 and included in Langtonās Classification in 2019.
Vineyard
Otto Kasper planted this Shiraz parcel with a northāsouth orientation on shallow red clay loam over red plastic clay. The site enjoys long, even sunlight and a favourable microclimate, contributing to the wineās complex aromatic profile, concentrated fruit and refined tannin structure.
Winemaking
Individual estate parcels were machine-harvested, destemmed and crushed, then open-fermented with cultured yeast. The wine spent eight days on skins before maturation in French oak, 70% new, for 22 months, with the parcels blended after six months in oak.

āIndividual estate parcels, machine-harvested, destemmed and crushed, open-fermented with cultured yeast, 8 days on skins, matured in French oak (70% new) for 22 months, blended after 6 months in oak. An exotic bouquet with new shoe leather and a sprinkle of sultry spices, the full-bodied palate with supple blackberry fruits to the fore and an underlay of integrated French oak. There is a finesse to the overall texture, structure and flavour that is remarkable.ā

āVery complex aromas of meat, spices, leaves and dark berries follow through to a full body, tight and chewy tannins and a long and flavorful finish. This needs time to open, but there is a lot happening in the bottle. Drink in 2019.ā
