Overview
Derey Freres Gevrey-Chambertin is a finely structured Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir combining ripe red fruit, subtle oak and the depth of Gevrey-Chambertin. The 2021 comes from the Craite-Paille climat, where contrasting limestone-clay soils contribute both early-ripening fruit and structural richness.
Vineyard
The wine comes from a 0.5714-hectare parcel in the Craite-Paille climat of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines are approximately 34 years old. Limestone-clay soils dominate the site, with one section featuring well-drained stony ground that encourages earlier ripening, while a deeper-soiled section contributes greater structure and richness.
Viticulture & Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, and this parcel is often among the first picked due to the concentration and early maturity of fruit from the stonier soils. Most of the crop is destemmed, while a smaller proportion is retained as whole bunches and placed at the bottom of the vat for traditional vinification.
