VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The 2021 vintage in Coonawarra stands out as exceptional, with excellent weather conditions contributing to high-quality and abundant fruit.
The extended vintage began with the harvesting of white varieties in late February. After a brief pause, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, the region's primary red varieties, were picked around the same time. The peak harvest started in early April, post-Easter, and continued until mid-May, concluding with the harvest of the region's signature variety.
The season experienced mild and stable weather, with consistent temperatures and no significant rainfall. Dry conditions persisted through summer, resulting in small berries with thick skins. Minor rainfall events during the growing season supported vine health and soil moisture.
These conditions led to a gradual and steady maturation, allowing winemakers to harvest at optimal ripeness and flavor. The 2021 Coonawarra vintage was free from disease, drought, and smoke taint. The mild summer, combined with the resulting color and aromas in the finished ferments, suggests an outstanding vintage. The whites show firm acidity, while the reds exhibit excellent fruit expression and tannins, indicating strong cellaring potential.
WINEMAKING
Individual fruit parcels are fermented in stainless steel for five days before being transferred to French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks to complete fermentation. The wine then ages for an additional six months in oak before being blended and bottled young to preserve freshness.
