95/100 — Halliday Wine Companion 2024 · 2023 Vintage, Tasted: 02 Aug 2023
“Pinot noir sourced from the Cottage Block on the Dalrymple Pipers River estate. Aromas of ripe plum, red cherry and dried cranberries underscored by hints of fine spice, red licorice, purple floral tones, leaf litter, mushroom broth and game meats. There is an expansive, detailed shape to the wine as it swells with dark and red fruits before a seam of sapid acidity drives the wine to a sustained finish of spicy red fruits and gamey notes.”
95/100 — The West Australian · 2023 Vintage, Tasted: 02 Sep 2023
“From an unirrigated site, in the protective lee of the hillside, this complex pinot is a little shy at first but opens up in the glass. Darker mulberry fruit mingles with cherry, some subtle clove and white pepper. The wonderfully fine, silken palate has a peppy freshness with spice, chai and graphite pencil complexity. A lovely wine that should begin to peak in five-plus years.”
94/100 — Halliday Wine Companion 2026 · 2023 Vintage, Tasted: 12 Aug 2025
“A single-vineyard pinot noir from Pipers River showing plenty of wild strawberry, dark cherry and plum fruits with hints of medina spice, char siu, mountain herbs, dried citrus rind, citrus blossom, pomegranate, dried cranberries, dried meats and turned earth. A little more concentration this release; fruits a shade darker in the swatch book but still nicely composed, with a swoop of sour cherry, powdery tannins and a vivid briny cadence on the back end.”
92/100 — The Real Review · 2023 Vintage, Tasted: 01 Jul 2025
“Good depth of red colour laced with purple in the rim; the bouquet sappy and gently stemmy with beetroot and sour cherry characters. It's quite tense and lean in the mouth, with good depth of flavour if not a lot of richness or fruit-sweetness. Taut and savoury, with lively acidity, and balanced tannins adding grip.”
About This Wine
This single site Pinot Noir is sourced from blocks D & M1 on the Dalrymple Pipers River estate in Tasmania. The vineyard lies in close proximity to the cooling waters of Bass Strait, where sea breezes moderate vine growth and grape ripening, allowing full flavour maturity while retaining fine natural acidity.
The 2023 vintage followed a wet late winter and early spring with strong winds before Christmas, followed by warm and mostly dry conditions through to harvest, enabling the grapes to reach full ripeness.
