The 2023 Yangarra High Sands Grenache is a striking and site-driven expression from one of McLaren Vale’s most progressive and terroir-focused producers. Sourced from a unique, elevated vineyard site defined by deep sand over ironstone, High Sands Grenache highlights a lighter, more aromatic and finely structured interpretation of the variety — distinct from the richer styles often associated with the region.

Yangarra’s commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture allows this marginal site to speak clearly, producing Grenache of remarkable perfume, finesse and natural energy. The 2023 growing season was cooler and later than average, favouring slow ripening and excellent flavour development while preserving freshness and delicacy.

The bouquet is highly aromatic and lifted, offering notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, red cherry and pomegranate. Floral nuances of rose petal and hibiscus intertwine with hints of dried herbs, white pepper and subtle spice. A gentle mineral thread reflects the sandy soils and elevated position of the vineyard.

On the palate, the 2023 High Sands Grenache is medium-bodied, silky and beautifully balanced. Bright red fruit flavours glide across a fine, airy texture supported by supple tannins and vibrant acidity. Savoury undertones of spice, earth and dried herbs add complexity without weight, leading to a long, graceful and refreshing finish.
