Overview

Roux Beauté is Yangarra Estate’s extraordinary expression of Roussanne, produced from the estate’s oldest planting in Blewitt Springs. Extended skin contact and exclusive fermentation and maturation in ceramic eggs create a concentrated, age-worthy white with floral perfume, distinctive flavour and luxurious phenolic texture.

Yangarra Estate specialises in southern Rhône varieties grown across its biodynamic McLaren Vale vineyard, where altitude, ancient geology, weathered sand, ironstone-rich soils and maritime influence contribute freshness and unmistakable site expression.

Vineyard

The fruit was sourced from Block 6, Yangarra’s oldest Roussanne planting. Weathered sand and ironstone soils provide the foundation for a wine combining aromatic detail, mineral structure and exceptional concentration.

Vintage

A normally wet winter was followed by a dry spring. Unexpected rainfall during December and January encouraged berry development, while warm conditions through February and early March promoted flavour ripeness and concentration. The 2024 season delivered powerful fruit while retaining freshness and natural balance.

Winemaking

The Roussanne was hand-picked on 12 March. One portion was destemmed, crushed and transferred into 675-litre Clayver ceramic eggs. Sixty-six percent of the final blend was fermented on skins and remained in contact with the skins for approximately four months before pressing. Only the free-draining fraction was retained.

The remaining fruit was whole-bunch basket pressed directly into ceramic eggs and fermented without skin contact. Following blending, the wine matured exclusively in ceramic for a further two months.

Tasting Profile

Producer Tasting Note
Our unique vineyard, with its weathered sand and ironstone soil, starts this Roussanne’s journey towards being an extraordinary wine. Months mellowing on grape skins in large ceramic eggs ensures a wine of luxurious texture and distinctive flavour.

Critic Reviews

97+ Points — Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion

The Estate Roussanne from ’24 is a more effusive affair, while this is stony and mineral, yet still with fruitful depth and power. Orchard fruits, apples, pears, peaches – heirloom of feel – green almond, sage, raw quince, green tea, coriander seeds and dried Persian lime. Pithy, tangy, chewy, such a treasure trove for texture seekers… Brilliant.

96 Points — Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2024 Roux Beaute Roussanne is floral and fresh, and the phenolics really help the flavors to penetrate onto the palate. This is already so concentrated and intense but with tightly wound phenolics. This will be a superstar.

93+ Points — Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

Built on alternating waxy and chalky texture, a plushness… while the perfume flourishes with florals, citrus dried and fresh, exotic spice… pear and citrus, dried and fresh again, also make a presence felt. It’s squeaky and tight in the finish.
