Introducing the 2023 Tolpuddle Pinot Noir - A Rare Tasmanian Gem
分享
Pinot Noir is considered the ultimate reflection of the vineyard where it is grown. Winemakers are drawn to it because even the slightest changes in location can result in vastly different wines. This variety uniquely mirrors the environment and growing season, clearly showcasing the characteristics of its origin.
Located in Tasmania’s cool-climate Coal River Valley, Tolpuddle Vineyard is synonymous with premium winemaking in Australia. Established in 1988 and now managed by Martin Shaw and Michael Hill-Smith, the vineyard has gained a reputation for producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The combination of lean, mineral-rich soils and cool, dry conditions makes this region ideal for growing refined, age-worthy wines. Recognized in Halliday’s Top 100 Wineries and Australia’s Top 50 Most Collected Wines, Tolpuddle’s name has become a hallmark of excellence.
What Makes the 2023 Tolpuddle Pinot Noir Unique? The 2023 vintage stands out due to its exceptionally low yields, a result of one of the coolest seasons on record. This led to a smaller crop with more concentrated flavors. The wine bursts with aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, and floral hints of red carnation, balanced by subtle savory notes like cardamom and fennel. The palate is equally impressive, offering silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a mouth-filling texture. After spending 10 months in French oak, the wine's structure and depth reflect Tolpuddle’s meticulous craftsmanship.
